Behold-A new name for Special Issue for New Believers in 2001 By the Editor In our newsletter last May, we asked readers for a new name for the Special Issue for New Believers. The response was tremendous. We received many phone calls, faxes and letters. After much discussion, we have decided to use Behold as the new name for our magazine. Why Behold? The word Behold appears often in the Bible. It represents will as well as action: 1. Behold and look up to heaven - we behold as we hope, seek and draw near to our Heavenly Father. 2. Behold and look on the fields - with the heart and eyes of Jesus, we behold and look on the fields, analyze human behavior and take on the mission of service for our Lord. We believe this new name embodies our new direction for the new century. The goal of the old Special Issue for New Believers was to help new believers grow. We hope the new Behold can bring about an awareness of the times we live in and a sense of mission on the part of Chinese scholars and overseas Chinese Christians. How do we Behold ? And what awareness of our times and sense of mission should Chinese Christians have? An awareness of our times means that Behold will focus on subjects about the age in which we are living. It will feature profound discussion on these subjects based on Christian values. A sense of mission means that Behold will focus on a wide range of resources and consider how they may be applied to Chinese mission as well as to missionary endeavour throughout the world. We hope to maintain the style of Overseas Campus magazine, combining spirituality, compassion and reason, with both depth of thought and reader-friendliness. Beginning from 2001, our bimonthly Overseas Campus will continue to target overseas Chinese scholars who are seeking the truth, with six issues per year. The newly named Behold will target Christian Chinese scholars and overseas Chinese, with four issues a year. We welcome all our writers and readers to "behold" and work together with us as we cultivate this new field. * * * The theme of the 8th issue of Special Issues for New Believers is Rooted. We believe it is no easy task to follow Christ. It means walking the path of the Cross. We must be deeply rooted before we can bear fruit. Only those who are firmly rooted will be able to withstand today's cultural countercurrents. Therefore, we are taking A Dynamic Life as our introductory article in order to introduce a Biblically based world outlook. Following this article are five other articles discussing the subject of abortion and how to respond to this subject from the basis of a rooted life. Other articles illustrate the rooted life from various aspects. We welcome you write to us with your responses or further sharing on this subject. |
